Hello from Taiwan

Hello Everyone! I made it safe and sound to Taiwan and am about to embark on one of the most incredible adventures in my life thus far. My friend John is living here for a year teaching English to elementary students so I came out here to visit and finally experience my first Asian country. I’m so excited and I will be doing a lot of fun stuff and will be sharing it with you all. I just arrived last night and let me tell you, the 14 hour flight was grueling. I’ve flown to Europe before and I thought the 9 hours there was bad. Oy Vey! But, I’m here and happy and it is SUNNY!! I’m still jet lagged so today I’m taking it easy. I’m lying in bed right now drinking coffee and then I’m going to take a little walk around the neighborhood to get my bearings about this foreign place. The thing I’m most worried about is the fact that I do not know the language whatsoever. Not even a little bit. Wait, that’s a lie, I can say hello and thanks so I’m making progress, right?
After my friends lunch break (by the way, the foreign teachers here get a two hour lunch break), I’m going to go check out the gym he occasionally works out at. I know I know, I’m in Taiwan so why am I going to a gym? Well first and foremost, I think including working out on vacation is very important. I like to practice what I preach and second, um, it’s a gym in Taiwan. I HAVE to experience that. Stay tuned for my blog post tomorrow on my experience there. There is a pool, treadmills, weights, etc. Whatever should I do?
Tonight we are planning to go to Taipei 101 which happens to be the tallest building in the WORLD and have dinner at the top. Let’s just hope there isn’t one of those things called an earthquake when we are sitting up top…
